Day 1 - Exploring Ella

Udawalawe Safari

At the crack of dawn, you’ll set off for Udawalawe National Park, an approximately two-hour journey from your Ahungalla hotel (Riu Hotel / Heritance Hotel). This park is a sanctuary to several hundred elephants and a variety of rare plants and wildlife. An early morning jeep safari in Udawalawe National Park has been scheduled to provide you with the opportunity to witness numerous wild animals in their natural habitat. Expect to encounter a plethora of wildlife, including elephants, water buffalos, wild boars, spotted deer, sambur deer, jackals, sambar, black-naped hare, mongooses, bandicoots, foxes, the endemic Toque Macaque, Gray Langurs, and more.

Udawalawe plays a vital role in the conservation of Sri Lankan wild elephants, which can be easily observed in their open habitats. The park’s primary attraction is the Udawalawe Reservoir, which draws a herd of elephants believed to be permanent residents.

Visit Elephant Transit Home

Following your safari adventure, your next stop will be the Elephant Transit Home. ‘Ath Athuru Sevana’ is a government-run sanctuary located in Udawalawe, Sri Lanka. It provides a haven for baby elephants that have been discovered abandoned, orphaned, ill, or injured in the jungle. These young elephants are nurtured, cared for, and treated at the Elephant Transit Home until they make a full recovery and can be safely returned to their natural habitat in the wild.

Rawana Waterfall

After your visit to the Elephant Transit Home, you’ll embark on a 2.5-hour journey to Ella. Ella, a picturesque mountain town in Sri Lanka, is renowned for its hiking trails and natural beauty. With its lush tea plantations, stunning waterfalls, and abundant scenery, this area has become a beloved destination for tourists.

On the way to Ella, you’ll have the opportunity to visit the Rawana Waterfall. This picturesque cascade, known as Ravana Ella, is nestled in the Ella Gap and ranks among the most photographed waterfalls in Sri Lanka. It’s conveniently located near the main road that connects the central highlands with the southern plains, making it a popular stop for travelers.

Nine Arch Bridge

In the evening, we’ll arrange a visit to the Nine Arch Bridge for you. This remarkable bridge, part of the Demodara loop, stretches over 91 meters with a height of 24 meters. The bridge’s exquisite nine arches create a picturesque and captivating scene, especially given its location within a lush jungle and agricultural setting.

As you stand on the bridge, you’ll witness a flourishing forest behind the railway tracks, while below, tea leaves are meticulously cultivated, offering a stunning blend of natural beauty and human ingenuity.

Mini Adams Peak

Ella in Sri Lanka is globally renowned for its awe-inspiring views and natural beauty, and Little Adam’s Peak is a standout among them. This eye-catching, jaw-dropping, and prominent peak is an absolute must-visit. It has consistently drawn tourists for quite some time, and its popularity is well-justified due to the breathtaking and consistently impressive views it offers.

After this remarkable visit, you’ll head back to your hotel, concluding your day of exploration and scenic wonders in Ella.

Day 2 - Tea Country Exploration

Scenic Train Journey

The following morning, you’ll board a train from Ella, commencing an incredibly picturesque train journey to the delightful town of Nanuoya. Renowned as one of the most scenic train rides in Asia, this journey is a remarkable way to explore the enchanting tea country.

As you traverse this dramatic highland landscape, your senses will be captivated by the lush tea plantations, majestic peaks, and cascading waterfalls that unfold along the route. It’s a truly unforgettable experience that immerses you in the natural beauty of the region.

Nuwara-Eliya

Following the captivating train journey, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the panoramic beauty of the charming town of Nuwara Eliya, often referred to as “Little England.” Along the way, you’ll encounter picturesque waterfalls nestled amidst the scenic hills, adding to the natural splendor of the region.

Ceylon tea

Next, you’ll venture into the hilly terrain of Sri Lanka to explore its renowned tea country. Here, you’ll have the unique experience of plucking tea leaves directly from the plant, and you’ll also have the opportunity to savor a freshly brewed cup of tea in one of the tea factories.

Your guide will lead you on a tour of a tea factory, where you’ll gain insight into the entire tea production process, from the initial stages to the final product. It’s an immersive journey into the world of tea, allowing you to appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into every cup.

Ramboda Waterfall

En route, your journey will take you to the stunning Ramboda Waterfall, along with some iconic landmarks worth exploring. Following your adventures, you’ll pause for lunch at the plantation restaurant in Kithulgala, a place of historical significance as the filming location for “The Bridge on the River Kwai.”

Then, you’ll make your way back to Ahungalla, concluding your memorable and enriching journey.
